Ann Lowe, the First noted African-American fashion designer. She was a favorite among high society women from the 1920s to the 1960s for designs that included Jackie Kennedy’s wedding dress. Born in Alabama, she moved to Tampa in 1919 after attending design school in New York City and opened a high-end dress shop. She returned to New York City and opened a shop on Lexington Avenue in 1950 that was an immediate success.
